Our client is a publicly funded company that is operated by the State of Alaska. In which the mission is to encourage economic growth and diversification in Alaska. Our client is currently seeking a Project Controls Specialist to join the Fairbanks, AK team. This is an immediate opening with competitive pay, benefits package, and a matching 401k.
This position develops and provides project controls for various work tasks associated with the Client Project.
Essential Functions:
Project Controls
- Develops and maintains systems to track status reporting, financial reporting, milestones, and deliverables of work tasks (preferred to use Earned Value Management KPIs)
- Develops internal controls and guidelines associated with project controls
- Develops systems to standardize budget, scope, and milestones
- Tracks and audits internal controls and guidelines associated with project controls.
- Recommends and executes corrective actions to handle project compliance.
- Identifies upcoming project milestones and requirements so that Project Managers can ensure satisfaction of project milestones.
- Collection, measurement, and distribution of project performance information including dashboards
- Identifies and monitors project risk and recommend mitigation options.
- Monitors and implements approved project management plan changes.
- Other duties as assigned
Technology, Equipment, Systems, and Tools:
Requires advanced skills in project scheduling software, word processing, database software, presentation software, and spreadsheets. Requires basic skills with email and general office equipment.
Critical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of construction management techniques, including scheduling, budgeting and cost analysis.
- Understanding of basic accounting principles and procurement requirements.
- Ability to use Microsoft Suite to prepare written reports and presentations. Skills in database software, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and MS Project.
- Ability to review, evaluate and make recommendations for project control and monitoring procedures
- Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task, work under a deadline and understands project stakeholder’s interests.
- Skills in written and oral communication, presentations, use of computers, and cross-cultural communications.
- Excellent team building skills with the ability to obtain required information from project team members.
- Ability to assume increasing responsibilities in the various steps of project management and take increasing independent action.
- Ability to deal effectively with difficult individuals and handle sensitive issues.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced training or experience in project controls, construction management, or a related field. Two years’ experience in project management or rural project development with construction experience preferred. Work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.
