Automation Network Engineer
The Network Security Engineer assists with the design, build, commissioning, completion, maintenance, and support of the FGP Automation IT Networks.
There is extensive activity with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network routers, switches and firewalls. The position also requires frequent visits to field/plant locations to assist with installation and troubleshooting network problems.
The position is responsible for the successful FAT, SAT and Handover of all Automation Systems, including the relevant documentation and Dataflow & Architecture drawings.
The position is responsible to ensure security and compliance of firewalls and network security devices throughout the Automation networks, and to ensure that security policies are strictly configured with security as first priority.
The position requires a comprehensive understanding and use of more complex test equipment (EIGRP, acket Sniffer, SNMP, Solarwinds, Splunk, Palo Alto Networks, Cisco catalyst & Nexus, VMWare etc.) An advanced understanding of networking infrastructure, IP protocols, industry standards and recommendations. Mentoring peers or technicians is expected at all levels in the position.
Tasks Include (but not limited to):
Performs installation of technically advanced systems. Designs, configures and installs advanced level systems. Assists in the designs and configuration of systems outside of normal scope of work.
Reviews network designs submitted by Engineering and Vendors and provide accurate and relevant input to improve network security and maintain Zone separation
Performs advanced troubleshooting and fault finding on many different types of equipment and more complex systems. Performs troubleshooting and fault finding on systems outside of his/her normal scope of work.
Works closely with FGP and TCO Automation IT teams to coordinate permits, cabling and data access requirements for troubleshooting, new installations and online modifications to systems.
Performs advanced level diagnostics and repair. Escalate problems to the vendor where appropriate. Replacement of faulty and / or failed equipment. Performs repairs of equipment and systems outside his normal scope of work.
Proactively monitors the network environment and escalates problems to Technical Authority
Has a comprehensive understanding of the operation of more complex test equipment and basic understanding of monitoring systems. Applies simple statistics on data analysis.
Attends Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests of TCO vendors as appropriate to position and responsibility.
Assist Technical Lead in maintaining inventories and spares for all systems

Technical Skills Required
A general understanding of networking infrastructure and IP protocols and equipment. Knowledge of configuration and troubleshooting issues in Routers, Switches and Firewalls
Understanding and use of more complex test equipment. Able to use basic network diagnostic tools such as ping, telnet, SSH, traceroute, etc. An advanced understanding of networking infrastructure and IP protocols.
Comprehensive understanding and use of more complex test equipment (EIGRP, acket Sniffer, SNMP, Solarwinds, Splunk, Palo Alto Networks, Cisco Nexus, VMWare etc.) An advanced understanding of networking infrastructure, IP protocols, industry standards and recommendations. Recommends and proposes replacement of test equipment and monitoring systems
Fully understands the on-line modification and Management of Change process. Plans all the tasks required and updates and manages the entire work load.
Advanced PC skills able to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Visio. Performs Advanced design and programming/configuration of routers, switches and firewalls.
